This winter we'll be hosting five online workshops: two Community Calls, activity trainings for Urban Ecology and Scratch+micro:bit, and an activity training for our NEW activity, Inflatables. Additionally, we've added new online training resources to our website. Read on to RSVP and learn more about our upcoming & past offerings!
👾 Make Music with Scratch+micro:bit
Thursday, January 21, 2021 | 12:00-1:00PM ET
With Scratch + micro:bit, you can use storytelling, coding, and making to engage your patrons in physical tinkering while connecting the physical and digital worlds! This time around, we'll focus on how to run an "Inventing a Musical Instrument" workshop. Start the new year off right by learning how to play a music-maker of your own design!
🎈 Design Robots with Inflatables
Thursday, February 25, 2021 | 12:00-1:00PM ET
In this workshop, we’ll cover the new PLIX Inflatables activity, which makes use of the power of air to create and inflate pneumatic/soft robotic/mechanical designs using low- or no-cost upcycled materials. Read more about our Inflatables co-design process in our forum!
🌱 Sort Ecosystems with Urban Ecology
Thursday, March 11, 2021 | 12:00-1:00PM ET
The PLIX Urban Ecology Activity Series is composed of three independent activities that all focus on the ecosystem processes of urban and suburban settings. This training briefly covers how to get started with these three activities as well as how you might remix them to suit the needs and interests of your community!
🤝 PLIX Community Call
Thursday, March 25, 2021 | 12:00-1:00PM ET
Join us for a PLIX community call! We'll share updates about PLIX, hear from community members running activities for their library, and plan for our Facilitating Creative Learning Workshop.
Looking Ahead to Spring
⭐️ Facilitating Creative Learning Workshop
dates TBA, sometime April–May 2021
After a wonderful gathering of nearly 100 participants in November, PLIX is excited to hosting a second Facilitating Creative Learning Workshop in the spring. It will be held online in collaboration with Middle Georgia Regional Library. These two half-days of interactive professional development will give you the practical experience you’ll need to feel prepared to facilitate STEAM programming, including PLIX activities, for your patrons! Plus, you’ll get to delve into creative learning and meet the PLIX team.
Additional Training Resources
💌 Email Mini Courses
PLIX Email Mini-Courses are automated email courses that will help prepare you to facilitate some of our PLIX activities (like Urban Ecology) in your library. Each week, you'll receive an email from the PLIX team with reading excerpts, facilitation tips, and a making prompt that will give you some hands-on experience with the activity!
